Lindisfarne, TAS 7000, Australia, 6 July 2018 | Tennis Tasmania

Lindisfarne Memorial Tennis Club is the first in Tasmania to implement an innovative new online court booking platform – and it is already proving a winning move.

Within eight weeks of launching Book A Court in May, the Lindisfarne Memorial Tennis Club had received close to 400 court bookings and already surpassed the profit made from court hire in the previous 12 months.

Book a Court is an online booking and payment platform that connects with pin pad technology on a club’s gate. Anyone is able to hire a court online, which gives them a unique pin code to access the facilities during their booked time.

Peter Hobday, who led the Hobart-based club’s push to introduce Book A Court, has been impressed with both the community response and the benefits for the club.

“It saves on volunteers, is easy to monitor and gives great statistics,” Hobday said.

Court hire for coaching sessions has made up about 60 per cent of bookings recorded at the club, while 52 non-member bookings highlight the system is also making it more accessible for the general public to hire courts.

Four more Tasmanian clubs are aiming to have the Book A Court platform live by August, with Sorell, Richmond, Glenorchy and Devonport all currently installing the system.

Tennis Tasmania’s Club Development Coordinator Simonne Allwright is excited clubs are embracing the technology.

“There is great value in the data that clubs can capture through the Book A Court system. It allows them to track visitation numbers and have a better understanding of who is using their courts. This added knowledge can be used to strengthen grant applications and allow clubs to tailor offerings,” she said.

“It is flexible and convenient to use too – providing the best outcome of encouraging more people to get out and play tennis more often.”
