Junior and adult players in Tasmania have the opportunity to compete in upcoming Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) events to be held at Tennis World Launceston in November.
Following the success of the recent Bell Bay Junior Championships, the venue is set to play host to the Junior UTR Championships with an Open Singles Championships event to run concurrently on Sunday 29 November.
Divisions offered include 13/u and 16/u boys’ and girls’ singles respectively, with entry fees capped at $25 per event.
With Australian Ranking Tournaments postponed until at least 31 December 2020 due to COVID-19, Tennis World Launceston Leagues & Competitions Coordinator Joseph Strickland believes the demand for competitive tennis has been met by the emerging popularity of the UTR platform.
“We had great support from players and families who travelled from around the state to participate in the Bell Bay Junior Championships, which was just one of a number of recent UTR events in the state,” he said.
“The main motivation for Tennis World creating these events is to provide an opportunity for players to boost their UTR ratings and get some match practice in ahead of summer; the demand is certainly there, especially in the junior space.”
Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) is a purely results-based global rating system which rates all players on the same 16-point scale regardless of age, gender or location.

Entries for the November events at Tennis World close on Friday 27 November.
