Tasmania’s Alicia Dale made history last night, becoming the first Tasmanian Girl to win the Australia Cup in 44 years.
In the girls final, Dale went head-to-head with Juliet Santitto from Queensland and won the first set 6-1, lost the second 5-7, and then went on to win the tie break, 10-7.
“The win feels really good; I’m really privileged that I was able to do it in my home in Tassie. I played this tournament a couple of years and I’ve always dreamt of being a winner here, so it feels incredible,” Alicia Dale said.
“From here, I’ll be playing more tournaments on the mainland and trying to get entry into some international tournaments hopefully and see where it takes me,” she said.
The last Tasmanian girl to win the trophy was Maree Booth in 1980.
Tennis Tasmania is proud to host the Tennis National Championships on behalf of School Sport Australia.
