Congratulations to Tasmanian Ross Patterson who recently achieved great success at the IBTA Blind and Low Vision Tennis World Championships in Italy. Patterson won Gold in the B4 Men’s Singles and Gold in the Men’s Open Doubles with Michael Leigh (NSW).
“It was an honour to be selected by Tennis Australia to represent my country at this year’s IBTA World Championships. I am incredibly proud to have seized the opportunity by winning gold medals in the B4 singles and B2-B4 doubles.”
It was a highly successful event for Australia, one of 25 nations to compete, winning seven gold, six silver and one bronze.
“BLV Tennis is a rapidly growing sport, with athletes from 25 countries competing at the recent IBTA World Championships. I remain hopeful that it will soon be featured at the Grand Slams or the Paralympics.”
These two new title wins accompany the two gold medals Patterson won at the 2023 IBSA World Games in Birmingham, United Kingdom. The accolades continue as Patterson was recently named winner of the Most Outstanding Player with a Disability at the 2024 Tasmanian Tennis awards.
“From the age of 11 tennis has been a significant part of my life, and it’s gratifying to see the benefits of the countless hours spent perfecting my technique and honing my on-court strategy.”
