The Traralgon Tennis Centre was the venue for the Minister for Sport and Recreation, The Hon. Hugh Delahunty MP and Tennis Victoria’s President, David Stobart, to launch Tennis Victoria’s new Tennis Facility Planning Guide.

The Tennis Facility Planning Guide is for tennis clubs, local government and anyone in the tennis community who is looking for advice and best practice information to develop new or existing tennis facilities. The guide uses everyday language so that people without technical, and/or project management skills can gain an understanding of the facility development process.

The guide is a result of a partnership between Tennis Victoria and the state government through Sport and Recreation Victoria (SRV) who provided funding for the research and development of the guide.

“Thank you to the Victorian Government for their support of tennis facilities and making this Guide a reality,” said Matthew Kennedy, Tennis Victoria’s Executive Director.

“In partnership with SRV, we believe the Tennis Facility Planning Guide will be an important resource for tennis clubs and councils to create an inclusive, quality and sustainable tennis environment.”

There are over 5500 tennis courts in Victoria with a broad range of surfaces, construction methods and maintenance techniques. The guide will become a key tool for the tennis community to use when planning and developing tennis facilities.

Appropriate planning of tennis facilities at an early stage, can result in a quality facility that is functional for players, committees and the community. Therefore the guide has a focus on planning to avoid a number of issues whereby tennis clubs and local government are left to deal with below standard tennis facilities.

“We encourage tennis clubs and councils to use the guide, and also consult Tennis Victoria, so that strong partnerships are built for the benefit of increasing community participation through the sport of tennis,” said Kennedy.
