5 October 2011 | Tennis Victoria

Australia will be hosting a Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Zonal Group I tie from 10–12 February 2012.

Australia has been drawn against China P.R in this first round tie, with the winning nation then competing in the second round in April 2012 against either Korea Republic or Chinese Taipei. A successful result in the second round tie would then promote Australia to compete in the September play-offs for the World Group in 2013.

Following Tennis Australia’s discussions with the Davis Cup captain, the preferred surface and event conditions have been advised, and suitable Tennis Victoria affiliated clubs interested in hosting this event may submit an initial Expression of Interest via email to Tennis Victoria.

At this stage, the following should be taken into account regarding host venue requirements:-

  • Provision of minimum 3000 seats around the stadium court
  • Grass surface
  • Outdoor venue
  • Court availability – from 2 February to 13 February, 2012
  • Venue availability – from 30 January to 16 February, 2012 (these dates are tentative based on bump-in and bump-out periods)
  • Five courts (one stadium court, dimensions are World Group size 40.23m x 20.11m and four practice courts of same grass surface)

NOTE: There are other ITF requirements to be considered i.e. close international airport; suitable tie hotel; specific venue requirements etc. However, for the purposes of this Expression of Interest, please only address the bullet points above.

Once submissions are received by Tennis Victoria, a request for further information may be sought. Please consider the above conditions and forward expressions of interest by email to Nick Hinneberg – Executive Manager of Tennis Operations via [email protected] by 5pm Wednesday 19 October, 2011. For any enquiries, please contact Nick on (03) 8420 8420
