Tennis Victoria Ambassadors Cup

Warrnambool Lawn Tennis Club played host to Tennis Victoria’s Ambassadors Cup, the Regional Team Event for 15/u boys and girls over the past two days. After a closely fought final between the teams from Barwon and Loddon Campaspe, it was the latter that finished victorious by four rubbers to two. Photos of the event are now available on Tennis Victoria’s Facebook page.

The Regional Team Event series now moves to Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club in two weeks time for the final event of 2011, the 10/u Wayne Arthurs Cup.

Optus 14s Australian Teams Championships

The Optus 14s Australian Teams Championships concluded yesterday at Melbourne Park with both Victorian teams finishing with strong wins to cap off a great week of team tennis.

The Victorian boys finished third, defeating the third seeded team from Western Australia two rubbers to one in their 3rd – 4th place playoff.  The girls also ended their week with a win and finished fifth overall after a strong performance against the team from New Zealand. Both teams should be congratulated for their great efforts representing Victoria considering the depth of talent on show over the five days. All eyes turn this week to the Optus 18s Australian Championships and the Optus 14s Australian Championships. Good luck to everyone competing.

Bendigo Pro Tour

The final Australian Pro Tour event of the year was completed in Bendigo yesterday, with the Victorians competing over the week experiencing mixed results. Victorian Sam Groth again put in a strong performance in the men’s singles event, making it to the semi-final stage before going down to eventual winner Matt Reid from New South Wales. There was some success however to be had in the men’s doubles event, with Victorian Andrew Whittington partnering with South Australian Luke Saville to take out the title, making it back to back doubles wins for the Victorian on the Pro Tour circuit after winning in Traralgon last week.

In the women’s side, Victorian Olivia Rogowska made her second semifinal in as many weeks, but couldn’t go one better as she lost to eventual finalist Isabella Holland.

The Australian Pro Tour will resume in late January 2012 for the McDonald’s Burnie International in Tasmania.
