4 January 2012 | Tennis Victoria

The result of Fed Cup and Davis Cup Ties in the coming weeks will determine whether our National teams will compete on home soil in the next stage of their International team competitions in April 2012.

Affiliated clubs with a grass surface for the Davis Cup Tie and a clay surface for the Fed Cup Tie have the opportunity to register an expression of interest with Tennis Victoria to be considered to host one of these major international events (subject to conditions including the Fed Cup and Davis Cup February 2012 results).

Davis Cup Tie – April 2012

An invitation is extended to all eligible affiliated tennis clubs and centres to submit an expression of interest for a possible Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Zonal Group I – second round tie between Australia and Korea Republic from 6 – 8 April 2012.

Australia is scheduled to compete against China P.R in a first round Zonal tie in February 2012 in Geelong, Victoria.  If Australia was to be successful in the February event, and Korea Republic was to defeat Chinese Taipei in its first round tie, a second round Zonal tie would take place at home in Australia (note: if Australia was to compete against Chinese Taipei in the second round, it would be an away tie).  A successful result in the second round tie would then promote the Australian Davis Cup team to compete in the September play-offs for the World Group level for 2013.

Following discussions with the Davis Cup captain, the preferred surface and conditions are listed below, but if  further developments take place, you will be advised immediately:

  • Grass surface
  • Outdoor venue

At this stage, interested clubs and centres are encouraged to register an expression of interest in hosting this event to Tennis Victoria. This will be passed onto Tennis Australia, and once submissions are reviewed, a formal request for further information may be sought.

Fed Cup Tie – April 2012

An invitation is extended to all eligible affiliated tennis clubs and centres to submit expressions of interest for a possible Fed Cup World Group Play-Off or World Group II Play-Off tie from 21 to 22 April 2012.

The Australia Fed Cup team is scheduled to compete against Switzerland in the first round of the Fed Cup World Group II in Fribourg, Switzerland from 5 – 6 February 2012.  The result of the World Group II tie will determine if Australia will compete in a World Group Play-off and have an opportunity to reclaim its World Group status for 2013 or compete in a World Group II Play-off to retain the World Group II level for 2013.

The ITF Draw that is conducted a few days after the conclusion of the February ties will determine who Australia will be drawn against and determine if a home or away play-off tie will take place.  World Group Play-off possibilities include a tie against Russia, Belgium, Serbia, Germany and the Czech Republic.  World Group II Play-off possibilities include the winning nations of Zonal Group I from any of the three regions (Europe, America and Asia/Oceania).

Following discussions with the Fed Cup captain, the preferred surface and conditions are listed below, but if further developments take place, you will be advised immediately:

  • Clay surface
  • Outdoor venue

At this stage, interested clubs and centres are encouraged to register an expression of interest in hosting this event to Tennis Victoria (refer attached form). This will be passed onto Tennis Australia, and once submissions are reviewed, a formal request for further information may be sought.
