The tennis community in the north of Metropolitan Melbourne can look forward to a new regional tennis facility following the launch of a partnership to develop the Hume Regional Tennis and Community Centre.
Tennis Victoria has been working in partnership with Hume City Council, Tennis Australia and Stockland to deliver a tennis facility that will include 18 courts, with space to grow to 24 courts. Planning includes a centre court, seating and MLC Tennis Hot Shots courts for the development of juniors. The pavilion will be a shared tennis and community centre ensuring the facility is home to a wide range of community use. Other facilities include:
- Community consultation rooms
- Cafe and multi use space to host functions
- Family BBQ area
- Children’s play area
The site for the new five hectare facility is Craigieburn North within Stockland’s fast growing Highlands residential community – the largest masterplanned community in Melbourne’s north. Due to population growth, Tennis Victoria identified the need for a facility of this size and location within its Facility Planning Framework and North West Metropolitan Regional Tennis Strategy. The Hume Regional Tennis and Community Centre is an exciting project that builds on Tennis Victoria’s commitment to promote and support inclusive, quality and sustainable tennis environments.
Hume City Council Mayor, Councillor Ros Spence, said the new venue will prove to be a valuable resource to help the local community continue to thrive.
“We are delighted to be working with such dedicated project partners in support of the new Hume Regional Tennis Centre in Craigieburn,” said Cr Spence.
“Set to become a community icon, the development of this community centre demonstrates that we’re committed to continue to deliver quality, innovative recreational spaces to meet the needs of our growing region while continuing to offer Hume residents new community assets.”
The Hume Regional Tennis and Community Centre is scheduled to officially open in late 2013.
