An exciting new pilot project, getinto.tennis.com.au, was officially launched in the City of Boroondara today.

Providing current and potential tennis players with a unique opportunity to find a tennis program to suit their needs, getinto.tennis.com.au will also help tennis clubs in the City of Boroondara promote their services.

“The Hawthorn Tennis Club is very happy with the promotional value of the new getinto.tennis.com.au website,” said Peter Robinson, from the Hawthorn Tennis Club.

“The club is hoping to get an increased number of membership inquiries that convert to active tennis players at our club.”

At the launch today, Matthew Kennedy, Tennis Victoria’s Executive Director said getinto.tennis.com.au was an important step in the right direction for the sport.

“We know there is a massive interest in the sport and the aim is that getinto.tennis.com.au will provide an easily accessible, centralised online directory that potential and current players will find beneficial, whilst also supporting our important club network,” said Mr Kennedy.

“It is also hoped that data gathered through the site will assist clubs to best tailor their programs to the changing needs and wants of the community.”

Councillor Dick Menting said the City of Boroondara was excited to be involved with the project.

“Tennis is a very popular sport in the City of Boroondara and plays an important role in creating healthy communities,” said Cr Menting.

“We would like to thank Sport and Recreation Victoria and Tennis Victoria for their work on the project.

“I believe the website will be an invaluable tool in further increasing the sport in the City of Boroondara by making it easier for would be players to find a local club providing a type of program they’re interested in.”

Funding received from Sport and Recreation Victoria through the State Sporting Association Support Grant (SSASG) program has made this project possible.

The City of Boroondara was chosen to pilot the website as the issue of needing to better promote the tennis services provided by clubs and coaches to the wider community was raised at a club and coach forum last year. Clubs requested assistance from the Council and Tennis Victoria to help them with this issue, resulting in them being chosen as the pilot Local Government Association (LGA) for this project.

Following a six-month pilot and review process, it is hoped that the getinto.tennis.com.au will be launched across Victoria, and eventually, Australia wide.
