Congratulations to Victorian tennis player Joshua Charlton (Traralgon) who won the prestigious David Drane award at the Gippsland Sports Academy awards night.

Joshua is only 13 years old and has been part of the Gippsland Sports Academy tennis program for two years. The award recognises his outstanding commitment and work ethic during his time with the academy.

“This is great recognition for Josh’s achievements and something that should boost his confidence for the next few years,” said Nick Hinneberg, Tennis Victoria’s Operations Manager.

“The awards night showcased some of the best talent in the Gippsland region, and for Josh to be recognised amongst such a talented group of people is a huge achievement.”

Since January 2011, Josh’s national ranking has risen from 2093 to 1233, an impressive jump of 860 places.

He has represented the Central Gippsland area at the 12/u Alicia Molik Cup and the 13/u John Fitzgerald Cup, where he went undefeated in his singles matches.

Following on from these impressive results, Joshua was selected to represent Victoria’s regional state team at the national Foundation Cup in Sydney run by the Fed Cup Foundation during the Apia International.
