The Australian Open trophies will visit Ballarat for the first time tomorrow, Thursday 8 November 2012. Ballarat is the first of two stops in Victoria and the fourth domestic stop on the annual Australian Open Trophy Tour.
The Norman Brookes Challenge Cup (men’s singles) and the Daphne Akhurst Memorial Cup (women’s trophy) have already ventured far and wide having visited Japan and China in recent weeks.
In 2011 the trophy tour took in 25 destinations in Australia and China covering over 80,000km.
The perpetual Australian Open Trophies are awarded to the men’s and women’s singles winners during on-court ceremonies after the finals and are engraved with the name of the Australian Open Champions each year. 2013 will be the third occasion that the winner of the Australian Open men’s and women’s singles titles will take home an exact full-size replica trophy instead of the previously awarded miniature versions.
For an opportunity to see the trophies and have your photo taken with them head down to Buninyong and District Tennis Association, Forrest Street, Buninyong between 4.30pm and 6.00pm on Thursday 8 November.
