Some of the best 10 year old players in Victoria will be on show at the Wayne Arthurs Cup this weekend at Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club.
64 talented Victorian boys and girls aged 10 and under will be representing the country and metropolitan regions of Victoria for the honour of being named the Wayne Arthurs Cup Champions for 2012.
Played annually, the Wayne Arthurs Cup is the first opportunity for our junior tennis players to represent their country region or metropolitan Association in Tennis Victoria’s regional team event series.
Tennis Victoria is very fortunate to have the support of the Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club and the Kooyong Foundation in providing the facility as well as give-aways, caps and shirts to the players and sponsoring the event.
The Wayne Arthurs Cup is named after former Australian tennis star Wayne Arthurs who represented Australia at 8 Davis Cups including the 2003 campaign that saw Australia win in which Arthurs was pivotal to the result. He also represented Australia at the 2004 Olympics in Athens and reached a career-high singles ranking of 44 in 2001 before retiring from the sport at Wimbledon in 2007.
Over the weekend of tennis, each child will play in a round robin format participating in singles and mixed doubles rubbers. The winners of the Wayne Arthurs Cup will be presented at the conclusion of the tournament on Sunday. The children participating will also get the opportunity to meet Wayne Arthurs when he opens the tournament on Saturday.
Good luck to all participants representing their region as they start their summer season of tennis!
