1 March 2013 | Tennis Victoria
The 2013 Tennis Victoria Premier League season commences tonight (Friday 1 March) and with the addition of prize money, a Country All Stars team and some of the best players in Victoria, this year’s competition is shaping up as the best yet.
Super Rounds will be introduced for the first time in the competition’s history, with Royal South Yarra Lawn Tennis Club holding the men’s first round and Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club hosting the women’s first round from 7pm tonight.
“We’ve given the Tennis Victoria Premier League competition a face lift this year and we have an outstanding array of talent signed up for 2013,” said Jeff Downes, Competitions Manager for Tennis Victoria.
“We have a former top 100 player Peter Luczak in the squad for MCC but he will face some stiff competition from some of the best male players in Australia including Dane Propaggia (Grace Park), Andrew Coelho (Kooyong Lawn), Aaron Leeder-Chard (Waverley), Harry Bourchier (Country All Stars), David Vukansinec (Royal South Yarra Lawn) and Daniel Wendler (Dingley).
“On the women’s side, we have a great mix of established players and rising stars including Viktorija Rajicic (Delahey Recreation Club), Jaide Collins (Dendy Park), Alison Bai (Grace Park), Zoe Hives (MCC), Gussie O’Sullivan (Royal South Yarra Lawn), Storm Sanders (Frankston), and Belinda Woolcock (Kooyong Lawn), who are all proven performers at the elite level.”
Bourchier, one of the top juniors in Australia, will join the Country All Stars team, who will enter the competition for the first time, giving country Victorian players and spectators access to top level tennis.
