After two tightly fought opening rounds, round three of the Tennis Victoria Premier League competition begins tonight and could go a long way in shaping the finalists for 2013.
The men’s draw will head to Dingley Tennis Club for their Super Round, while the women’s draw Super Round will be held at Dendy Park Tennis Club with both starting at 7pm, before heading to Grace Park (men) and Frankston (women) on Sunday for round four.
“It’s incredibly close at the top of the ladder after the first two rounds which I believe highlights how strong this competition is – at the moment any of the teams could qualify for the finals,” said Tennis Victoria’s Competitions Manager Jeff Downes.
“With a shortened season of seven rounds, the two rounds this weekend will go a long way in determining who will make up the top four and play in the finals.”
Andrew Whittington (Australian Ranking 28) and Samantha Harris (AR 47) have joined the Kooyong Lawn men’s team and Grace Park women’s team respectively, ensuring round three will boast the strongest line-up so far.
“The standard of tennis already has been unbelievable and with Whittington and Harris joining the likes of Peter Luczak and Viktorija Rajicic in the competition, it’s only getting stronger,” said Downes.
After two rounds, Kooyong Lawn is leading the men’s competition on 14 points, but MCC are only one point behind.
Newcomers the Country All Stars registered their first points of the season in round two and will be looking to continue their good form heading into their match against Royal South Yarra Lawn Tennis Club.
On the women’s side, MCC is the only undefeated team after two rounds, with Kooyong Lawn following closely behind
