The top four spots in the Tennis Victoria Premier League have been decided after a thrilling conclusion to the Super Rounds over the weekend.
MCC finished top of the men’s ladder, followed by Kooyong Lawn, Grace Park and Waverley Tennis. On the women’s side, Kooyong Lawn topped the table, followed closely by MCC, Delahey Recreation and Royal South Yarra Lawn.
“We saw some of the big guns of the competition play for their team in a final effort to gain some form heading in to the finals,” said Tennis Victoria’s Competitions Manager Jeff Downes.
“We had Peter Luczak and Rubin Statham (MCC) as well as James Lemke and Jacob Grills (Grace Park) all post convincing wins on the men’s side while Viktorija Rajicic (Delahey Recreation) and Gussie O’Sullivan (Royal South Yarra Lawn) both showed that they will be tough competition in the finals with their strong round 7 wins.”
All the semi-finals will be held on Friday night from 7pm, with MCC and Waverley on the men’s side and MCC and Delahey Recreation on the women’s doing battle at MCC. The other semi-final will be held at Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club, with the home team taking on Grace Park and Royal South Yarra Lawn in the men’s and women’s draws respectively.
“There are some intriguing match ups this weekend with team’s only one match away from the final and their chance to compete for the $4000 winners cheques. On the women’s side, Delahey Recreation will be looking to repeat their round 7 win against MCC who were previously undefeated while the quiet achievers of the competition, Royal South Yarra Lawn, will be looking to surprise heavyweights Kooyong Lawn”
“On the men’s side, Kooyong Lawn will be looking to bounce back from their loss to MCC in Round 7 when they take on a strong Grace Park team, while Waverley Tennis will be looking to cause an upset when they take on top placed MCC in the other semi-final.”
