The Alicia Molik Cup was recently held at Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club. Supported by the Club and the Kooyong Foundation the Alicia Molik Cup is a competition played by 12/u mixed teams from both metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria. In 2013, 10 regional teams and 6 metro teams were involved with players coming from as far as Warnambool, Swan Hill and Bairnsdale to be part of the action.
The day was a huge success with the 64 children displaying some fantastic tennis. It all came down to the final that had everyone on the edge of their seats. In a final that looked like seemed like it was going to be a never ending battle, Waverley eventually defeated NSJTA. Results at the end of the regular matches were 3 sets and 26 games all. Both mixed doubles pairs were sent out to play a tiebreak each however it was a draw again with each association winning 7-5. The teams played another tie break with each association again winning one each however Waverley won on points 7-3 defeating NSJTA 8-6.
Congratulations to all teams involved, especially Waverley and NSJTA for putting on a great battle in the final.
