Following the huge success of the 2012 Asia-Pacific Tennis League (ATL) Vic Conference, Tennis Victoria is excited to announce that we are now accepting applications for the 2013 ATL Vic Conference.

The ATL competition is a fast paced competition with a shortened format and rule modifications that captured the interest of both the Victorian tennis community and the best players both within Victoria and nationally. The high quality of last’s years Victorian Conference was further enhanced when the Victorian men’s champions the Liston Seagulls led by Sam Groth won the ATL playoffs at Melbourne Park during the Australian Open in January.  The Victorian women’s champions, the Kooyong Classics, led by Sally Peers finished 5th.

The competition is provisionally scheduled to commence on Sunday 10th November and conclude with the Final on Sunday 1st December.

There will be 6 team licenses in both the men’s and women’s competitions with applications selected on the strength of the squad submitted and the quality of the club application. Unlike last year, interested players are not required to nominate on-line for the competition allowing clubs to have responsibility to recruit their own players. High quality players that signed up and fully endorsed  the 2012 Victorian Conference included Sam Groth, Andrew Whittington, James Lemke, Rubin Statham, Joseph Sirianni, Aaron Leader Chard, Sally Peers, Azra Hadzik, Storm Sanders, Belinda Woolcock, Samantha Harris, and Zoe Hives just to name a few.

Tennis Victoria’s Competitions Manager Jeff Downes  is excited about the upcoming competition following the huge success of last year. “ The profile of team tennis in this state was certainly changed last year during the ATL Vic Conference. The implementation of Super Rounds resulted in the competition being a carnival of tennis with large crowds flocking to each club’s allocated Super Round. The short fast paced nature of the competition lends itself to aggressive exciting match play, and we are certainly expecting star studded line ups this year, with competition for spots fierce in both the men’s and women’s competitions. The increase in team prize money is a major positive as well.  2013 will see $6,000 awarded to the Conference winners and $20,000 for the playoff winners, as this will undoubtedly attract the very best players to this exciting new evolution in tennis.”
