The 2013 Tennis Victoria Future Leaders Camp was held last week in Anglesea. Twenty one Year 10/11 students representing a variety of tennis clubs from around Victoria came together to meet likeminded tennis enthusiasts while taking the opportunity to learn about the variety of programs that tennis has that can benefit their clubs.
The Future Leaders program commenced in 2001 with over 300 students having since graduated from the program. Students go on camp where they learn valuable skills they will need to take back and help their clubs. The aim of the program is to assist clubs with developing their next generation of club volunteers.
Upon realising there was a rapid decline in club volunteers, Tennis Victoria created the Future Leaders program to help clubs engage the younger generation of club members and to give them a pathway and the skills needed to be able to assist the club. Upon completion of the camp students then devise a plan of how they will help their club.
Committing 40 hours of volunteer time, a variety of projects have been developed, ranging from coaching, trivia nights, event coordination, social media, fundraising and competition management.
Future Leaders Coordinator Jamie Stefanato said “It’s great to see the Leaders being proactive in wanting to help their tennis clubs. I look forward to seeing the work they can produce and celebrating their graduation during the Australian Open.”
Tennis Victoria will run the Future Leaders Program again in 2014. Keep your eyes on our website or Facebook for further details.
