7 October 2013 | Tennis Victoria

The 2013 Tennis Victoria Pennant season was an enormous success with the successful inclusion of a defined number of sections in the higher grades, resulting in an increase in standard across all grades and the introduction of the Men’s Masters 50+ Doubles and Men’s Open Doubles competition categories.

For the first time in several years there was also an increase in team numbers, and the scale and prestige of the competition highlighted, with the playing of 15,500 rubbers played across the 15 week plus finals season and just over 4000 players competing for over 134 different affiliated clubs.

Following the 2013 season it is now imperative for Tennis Victoria that we continue to review and grow the competition. As part of the review process, all clubs were invited to forward feedback and suggestions.

Following receipt of the club feedback, Tennis Victoria met with the Pennant Committee and considered all feedback. After review of the information, the Pennant Committee has proposed several changes for the 2014 season, documented in a Discussion Paper.

All clubs are now again invited to give specific feedback on items contained in the Discussion Paper and forward to Jeff Downes Tennis Victoria Competitions Manager  [email protected] by 5pm Tuesday 29th October.

Tennis Victoria’s Competitions Manager Jeff Downes is excited about the review process “The 2013 season was a great success and the feedback throughout the season on the introductions have been very positive. Pennant is Australia’s largest inter-club competition with enormous history and it is vital that we continue to grow the competition and listen to suggestions from our stakeholder clubs. This review process is vitally important to ensure we are able to continue to grow participation levels and make the competition more accessible and attractive to clubs and players.”

Tennis Victoria looks forward to your club’s and players feedback on the suggested changes for the 2014 season.
