28 November 2013 | Tennis Victoria

The ATL Vic Conference will wrap up this weekend when the finals are played at the National Tennis Centre on Saturday from 2pm. It has been a whirlwind of excitement leading up to Saturday with some fantastic tennis displayed in the Super Rounds.

The Kooyong Classics go in as the undefeated favorites in the Men’s and Women’s finals. The men will look to make up for their finals loss last year to eventual ATL Playoff Champions, Liston Seagulls. The women will be looking to go back to back in their pursuit of victory.

The competition will be tough with the Dingley Dingoes fighting their way through to the men’s final coming from 5th position going in to Round 4. New comers to the competition, the RSY Royals led by Tammi Patterson will be looking to take home the winners cheque in their debut season. Patterson will be joined by the strength of Storm Sanders and Azra Hadzic when they go up against the Kooyong Classics.

In anticipation of the final, Kooyong Classics Captain David Bidmeade said “It’s great to be involved in another ATL final for us. We lost last year to Liston so hopefully we can go one better this time. Rubin Statham has been a great addition to our team and I think the possible matchup between he and the Dingoes’ James Lemke will be the battle of the best players in the competition. The winner of that rubber could determine the match.”

The final of the ATL Vic Conference will be in partnership with Zaidee’s Rainbow Foundation. All Players, ball kids and officials will be wearing the rainbow Shoelaces associated with the cause. Zaidee’s Rainbow Foundation is a Victorian organisation that aims to raise awareness of organ donation.

The winners of the ATL Vic Conference will take home $6000 in prizemoney. Second place will take home $3000 while the winners of the 3v4 playoff will take home $1000.  The 3v4 finals for the Men will be played between the might of Scott Draper and Richard Fromberg of the Tennis World Taipans up against the Waverley Warriors.  The Women’s 3v4 final will be between ATL debutants the Delahey Reckers and MCC Stars.
