Tennis Victoria is excited to announce that team nominations are now open for the 2015/16 Asia Pacific Tennis League – South Conference, with team nominations closing on the 14 August 2015.
Tennis Australia have restructured the competition this year in which there will be two Conferences, a North and South Conference. There will be four Victorian clubs selected and they will feature in the South Conference. Each Conference will have two pools (A and B). There will be four Victorian teams in Pool A who will play every team in their pool twice in the round robin stage. Following completion of the round robin stage, the top placed team in Pool A and Pool B will play off against the second placed team in their opposite pool. The opposite Pool B will feature two teams from South Australia, one West Australian and one Tasmanian team.
The winner of each of these matches will play against each other in the Conference Final on Sunday 6 December at the National Tennis Centre, while the losing teams in each will play against each other in the third placed playoff. There will be a significant increase in prize money on offer this year with the winners receiving $12,000, runners up $6000 and third place $2000 in both the men’s and women’s competitions at the Conference Stage. The winner and runner up of the South Conference will then earn the right to compete at the ATL Playoffs in the second week of the 2016 Australian Open with $150,000 prize money on offer ($75k in both the men’s and women’s)
The provisional starting date of the competition is Friday 20 November, with the 6 round robin matches to be played across two triple header weekends, with the semi finals on Friday 4 December and Final on Sunday 6 December.
This year will again see the Asia Pacific Tennis League go regional with the playing of 2 rounds in Yarrawonga as part of the Tennis Victoria Country Festival of Tennis on the weekend of Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 November.
Tennis Victoria’s Competitions Manager, Jeff Downes is looking forward to the event “The calibre of players which we have been able to attract has continued to grow each year, highlighted by world class players in Sam Groth and Daria Gavrilova playing in last year’s competition. With the reduction of teams across the nation this year under Tennis Australia’s new structured competition and increased prize money, there certainly is a high optimism that the league standard will continue to get stronger this year, and I have no doubt it will.”
