Tennis Victoria is pleased to be a recipient of VicHealth’s ‘Changing the Game: Increasing Female Participation in Sport’ funding program.

Launched by the Minister for Health, The Hon. Jill Hennessy, ‘Changing the Game: Increasing Female Participation in Sport’ enables six successful sporting codes to help increase participation in physical activity amongst Victorian females who are inactive or only somewhat active.

The six state sport bodies who were announced as recipients of the VicHealth funding were Tennis Victoria, AFL Victoria, Gymnastics Victoria, Cycling Victoria, Netball Victoria and Surfing Victoria.

Tennis Victoria, in partnership with Tennis Australia, will use this funding to create an introductory program to the innovative Cardio Tennis program specifically for women wanting to get active and moving. ‘Get into Cardio Tennis’ will be low impact and easy to participate in, regardless of tennis or fitness ability. It will feature fun activities using a racquet and ball and will be delivered for large groups in non-traditional settings such as parks and the workplace.

Tennis Victoria CEO Matthew Kennedy said “We are very appreciative of this funding provided by VicHealth and look forward to rolling-out our new ‘Get into Cardio Tennis’ program. We know there is a gap in the market for females to be safely and comfortably introduced or reintroduced to low-impact physical activity. We think ‘Get into Cardio Tennis’ is the perfect program to help such women improve their health and wellbeing.

Tennis Victoria will officially launch ‘Get into Cardio Tennis’ later in the year in the lead up to the summer of Tennis and the all-engaging Australian Open 2016.
