The hugely successful Win a Wildcard competition will return again in 2015, giving players across Victoria a shot at competing in the mixed doubles event at the Australian Open 2016.

Eight clubs nation-wide will play host to the Win a Wildcard event, with Boroondara Tennis Centre in Melbourne’s East the chosen venue for Victoria.

The winning Victorian A-grade pair will then battle it out against each state and territory’s champion duo, to be awarded a spot in the first Grand Slam of the year.

2015, wildcard winners Sam Thompson (Vic) and Masa Jovanovic (Vic) played in front of a near-full Show Court 3 crowd when they pushed tennis legends Martina Hingis (SUI) and Leander Paes (IND) in the first round. Hingis and Paes went on to be crowned the 2015 Australian Open mixed doubles champions.

The overall A-grade winner will also receive hotel accommodation in Melbourne, Australian Open tournament accreditation, player transport and services and access to player areas.

The competition is also open to B and C grade players, with each state and territory’s finalists progressing through to the Social Playoff Event held at Melbourne Park during the second week of the Australian Open2016.

Victorian matches are played on November 22, with the national round from December 20 held during the December Showdown at Melbourne Park.
