10 December 2015 | Tennis Victoria

Valkstone Primary School has been crowned the 2015 Schools Sports Victoria ANZ Tennis Hot Shots Leagues red ball state champions, winning the inaugural event at the National Tennis Centre, Melbourne Park earlier this week.

The event saw eight teams represent seven regions throughout Victoria, with primary schools from across metro and country Victoria including the Lucknow PS (Gippsland), Montpellier PS (Western Metro), Mount View PS (Eastern Metro), Joseph’s PS (Loddon/Mallee), Waverley Christian College (Eastern Metro), Yarrawonga College0 (Hume), Valkstone PS (Southern Metro) and the Black Hill PS (Greater Western).

The schools have been competing in a round robin, FAST4 tennis format from term 1, 2015. To reach the state final, teams played multiple rounds through district, divisional and regional stages, against a wide range of primary schools varying in students from grades 3 – 6.

After three rounds, a semi-final and a final, Valkstone came out victorious after a very competitive finals play-off match against Mount View. The play-off for third saw another tough contest between Montpellier and Waverley Christian College, with Montpellier claiming bronze. The level of tennis and sportsmanship displayed on the day was truly outstanding by all teams competing.

Valkstone Primary School and Mount View Primary School now move on to the Schools Sports Victoria ANZ Tennis Hot Shots red ball national final at Melbourne Park on December 9 and 10.

It is shaping up to be a tough contest and we are sure the two Victorian teams will do their schools and themselves very proud.

Well done to all and we look forward to tennis being played in more and more primary schools in 2016!
