Plenty and East Malvern Tennis Club’s have won themselves $500 Club Development Voucher as part of the recent Asian Pacific Tennis League Fastest Serve Promotion.

As the state’s top players warmed up for the ATL South Conference final, a select few stepped up to fire off the fastest serve in the hope of winning their allocated Victorian club much needed funds.

150 competing Pennant season clubs were placed into a barrel for the opportunity to win a prize, with each of the 8 competing teams nominating one player to select a Pennant club from the raffle and then unleash their two fastest serves with a radar gun placed on court and lines umpires in place.

In the men’s fastest serve promotion, the Kooyong Classics’ Greg Jones served a thrilling 193km/h thunderbolt for his selected club Plenty TC, to secure them the $500 voucher.

For the women’s fastest serve promotion, the South Australian Prospect Flames’ Olivia Ley was the winner, with her 158 km/h serve enough for her selected club East Malvern TC to also win the prize.

“Pennant is Australia’s largest inter-club competition with 150 clubs playing in 2015 and over 16,000 individual rubbers played across winter, highlighting the enormity of our great competition,” said Tennis Victoria’s Competitions Manager Jeff Downes. “This promotion was a great way to align the Pennant clubs and competition to this high level national league. It was great to see so many club pennant secretaries at the day attending as VIP guests to watch the promotion and some world class tennis.”
