The 2016 Tennis Victoria Premier League season will get underway this weekend, with 12 teams vying for the championship title in both the men’s and women’s competitions.

The competition kicks off on Sunday 6 March and features 5 rounds, with the final to be played at Glen Iris Valley Recreation Club on April 9.

2016 has seen an increase in the total prize money pool to $20,000, and has attracted a star studded field of Victoria’s best players including Dane Propoggia, Rubin Statham, Aaron Leeder Chard, Andrew Whittington, Zoe Hives, Jaimee Fourlis, Victoria Rajicic and Destanee Aiava.

“Premier League is an important part of our competition pathway as our highest level inter club competition,” said Tennis Victoria’s Competition Manager Jeff Downes. “An integral part of the League is the Country All Stars, as it provides country players with a  pathway to the highest level competition.

“This year’s league will be intriguing to see if Grace Park Hawthorn can claim an unprecedented third consecutive men’s titles as will the women’s league with so many clubs having serious legitimate chances.”

The 2016 Premier League schedule of dates has been designed around minimising clashes with the ITF Pro Tour and AMT Platinums to ensure a quality field of players competing.

Round 1 will commence on Sunday 6 March with the men’s competition to be played at the home of the Country All Stars in Bendigo, and the women’s competition to be played at Mornington Tennis Centre.
