Mitcham’s Geoff Armstrong has been awarded a Tennis Service Award for outstanding contribution to the former Mitcham Uniting Church Tennis Club and Mitcham Tennis Club.
Geoff volunteered for at the Mitcham Uniting Church Tennis Club for 34 years before the club was closed. During this time, Geoff encouraged juniors to play, teaching the rules of the game and how to play until a club coach was appointed. He subsequently became Junior Convener, became involved with Tennis Victoria and was club Secretary for more than ten years.
Mitcham Uniting Church Tennis Club closed it’s courts in 2008 after the land was sold. Members were subsequently encouraged to join the Mitcham Tennis Club (MTC) in Nunawading. A number of members did move across and Geoff was elected President in 2009, a position he still holds today, along with the Junior Convenor role.
Geoff is passionate about junior development, and consequently is now a referee for many tournaments throughout Victoria and occasionally interstate. He is also a member of various junior competition committees in Victoria.
