After five days of competition across 565 matches, the Victorian Junior State Clay Court Championships have wrapped up at Dendy Park Tennis Club with Joshua Charlton (Traralgon) taking out the 18/u champion and Beatrice Hetrel (Dendy Park) crowned the girls 16/u champion.

A tight match-up between Charlton and Campbell Salmon (Royal South Yarra), who’s semi-final on Thursday went for three hours, saw Charlton victorious 7-6 2-6 6-2. View photo album.

Despite the loss in the singles, Salmon went on to take out the 18/u doubles alongside Michael Shepheard (Essendon), defeating Ken Cavrak and Connor Di Marco 6-4 6-4.

Joshua Spaull (Merlynston) went one better than last year’s 14/u runner up, taking home the 16/u singles title against Marcus Bulmaga 7-5 6-1. In the doubles final, Timmy Karpinski (Melbourne Park) and Emil Thaning were too strong for Alex Bulte and David Qariaqus (2-6 6-4 10-7), coming back from 5-1 in the match tie-break.

In the 14/u boys finals, Alex Kevill (Taylors Hill) scooped the pool, defeating Enzo Aguiard 6-1 7-6(4) in the singles before taking out the doubles championship with Matthew Woerndle (Royal South Yarra). The pair defeated Nicholas Salmon and Cooper White 7-6(4) 6-1.

Rowan Mendis (Greenvale) won his first state title, getting the better of Amor Jasika 6-3 6-1 in the 12/u boys singles. In the doubles final, Ethan Gaubert (Bentleigh) and Jed Rule (Canterbury) were victorious 6-3 7-5 over Adam Daggmarr and Kent Yamazaki.

In the headline girls match of the day, 15-year-old Beatrice Hetrel backed up her doubles win from Thursday to take out the singles title. Hetrel was too strong for Peta Valos 6-3 4-6 6-4 in a tight two-and-a-half-hour match.

In the girls 14/u singles match, Isabelle Papazyan (Dingley) defeated Alexandra San Andres 3-6 6-2 6-4, while in the doubles Joy Andreou (Beaumaris) Pearl Jansz (Koonung Park) took out the match 1-6 1-6 against Chiara Di Tommaso and Charlie Hargreaves.

Emily Ioannou (Buckley Park) won the 12/u girls singles, defeating Zali Morris 6-4 7-5 and due to a walkover, Zoe Barbakos (St Andrews Midd Brighton) and Talia Pati (Dendy Park) were awarded the 12/u girls doubles title.
