Victoria has shone at the 2016 12/u and 14/u Australian Grasscourt Championships in Adelaide this week, winning an outstanding four from eight national titles on offer.

Played at Memorial Drive Park in Adelaide, Kooyong’s unseeded Stefan Storch was crowned 14/u Boys Singles Champion, defeating Western Australia’s second seed William Hann 6-4 6-4.

“It feels really good [to be champion], I love playing on grass and it feels really good to be out here in front of my friends who I traveled with from Melbourne.”

“I was a bit nervous at the start, and with [William] being a left hander it was pretty hard to make some returns on the grass, but in the first set I got that crucial break at 4-4 and I served out the set.

“In the second set I was down 3-0 but I fought it back to 5-3 up and I just kept holding my serve. It was really tough today but I got through in the end,” said a delighted Storch.

The title was Storch’s second for the tournament, having paired with fellow Victorian Stefan Milenkovic to defeat Hann/Nikita Volonski 6-3 3-6 10-7 in the 14/u boys doubles final on Wednesday.

In the 12/u boys doubles, Greenvale’s Rowan Mendis added to his recent Clay Court State title, teaming with New South Wales’ Taj Hibbert to defeat Thomas Hann/Jed Plunkett-Smith 6-2 6-4.

In the girls events, Strathmore’s Emily Ioannou and Lara Walker (QLD) were crowned 12/u girls doubles champions, defeating Catherine Aulia / Taylah Lawless 6-3 5-7 10-8.
