Templestowe Park Tennis Club’s FAST4 Tennis Social Competition

Driven by the club committee and the club coach, Templestowe Park Tennis Club launched their 6 week competition in February for 6 consecutive Thursday nights from 8pm (finishing approx. 9:15).

Six teams of 3 were registered at lunch-time of the first night and the club was thrilled! By 5pm, just three hours before first serve, there were an additional two teams registered and at 8pm, two more teams were made up from unregistered players resulting in 10x 3 person teams for 6 weeks – the maximum amount of teams the club could have with 5 courts under lights.

Templestowe Park Tennis Club charged $90 per person for the season, $60 for those who were already members.

Incredibly, almost half of the 30 players were not current members of the club, seven of those people had NEVER played tennis at Templestowe Park Tennis Club before.

The Club created a special membership category in My Tennis to record the player’s data to keep in touch with the players for the next FAST4 Tennis social competition and other social opportunities.

Templestowe Park Tennis Club decided to make this competition 18+ yr only to keep the social young adult atmosphere and to ‘break the ice’, insisted on teams creating silly team names and gave out team bandannas in the first week. Dancing to the music and general banter was also encouraged.

Templestowe Park Tennis Club are a BYO licensed venue and provided some light beer and snacks and arranged a BBQ sausage sizzle for the last night to celebrate and for players to socialise.

In total, the administrators of this competition put in approximately 8 hours of work to get the competition up and running. This includes promotion, enquiries, team allocation, communication to register, receiving money, buying bandannas, food and drink. About two hours each week was also needed to run the comp which included setting up the club, competition scorecards for the night and then entering results into League Manager the day after.

After expenses, $2,000 was raised for the tennis club. This does not include players who may become members of the club.

Needless to say, Templestowe Park Tennis Club intend to run their FAST4 social competition again!
