Jill Towers of the Western Suburbs Night Tennis Group (WSNTG) has been recognised for her devoted and significant service, receiving Tennis Victoria’s Tennis Service Award.

Jill was presented the award by Tennis Victoria Vice-President Maria Keys and Director Anne Baldwin.

Towers began her service with the Western Suburbs Tennis Association (WSTA) in 1979, spending 15 years as an assistant/minutes Secretary, Committee Member, Chair of Match Grading Committee and was a representative on the committee for the amalgamation with the Werribee Tennis Association to form the Western Region Tennis Association (WRTA).

Between 1978 and 2007, Jill was a member of the Liston Tennis Club on the Committee and a representative to the WSTA and WRTA. She also organised teams for night tennis and was awarded Life Membership in 2007.

Jill was also awarded Life Membership of the Kingsville Tennis Club for her 15 years of service, including 10 years as a Treasurer.

The WSNTG was formed in 1992, as some participants wanted a mid-week night competition to play in. Jill was apart of the original Committee that created the competition, however it ceased in 1996 due to financial restraints. With many participants still striving for night tennis, Jill took it upon herself to get it back up and running in 1997.

Today, the WSNTG has 48 men’s teams and 37 ladies teams and continues to grow in popularity.

Jill has been and continues to serve as a Secretary, Treasurer and Public Officer.

In 2015, Jill was awarded Life Membership of the WSNTG for her outstanding contribution to the survival of the competition. Jill has also done a huge amount of work to raise money for struggling clubs to run tournaments and programs, highlighting her incredible passion and commitment to the growth of Tennis in the western region of Melbourne.

Congratulations Jill!
