The 2016 Victorian State Hardcourt Championships were held at Hume Tennis and Community Centre last week, with rising stars Lucas Vuradin and Destanee Aiava adding the title to their growing resumes.
Vuradin defeated last year’s Australian Open Win A Wildcard doubles competition winner Aaron Addison 6-3 6-3, while Aiava made short work of Viktorija Rajicic 6-0 6-1.
In the men’s doubles final, Steven De Waard teamed up with Germany’s Frank Moser to defeat youngsters Connor Di Marco and Michael David Shepheard 6-2 6-3.
In a match that saw the momentum swing between the two pairs, Bendigo’s Eliza Long and Mary Ann Liu eventually took out the win over Binasa Beslagic/Beatrice Hetrel 4-6 6-2 10-4.
Focus for the duo now turns to Tennis Australia’s December Showdown as Vuradin and Aiava compete in the 18/u National Championships.
