Tongala Tennis Club’s Ken and Helen Hastie have been officially honoured and recognised for their outstanding contribution to tennis in the region and across country Victoria.
The husband and wife duo were awarded Tennis Victoria Highly Commended Tennis Service Awards, presented at last week’s Victorian Country Tennis Association (VCTA) Country Week.
Both Ken and Helen are long-standing volunteers of both the Tongala Tennis Club and the VCTA, having been a part of the Association since 1985.
Over the decades, Ken has served as a VCTA general committee member and Tournament referee for VCTA Country Week. Whilst at Tongala Tennis Club he served as President, a general committee member, and also maintained the courts and club grounds.
Helen has also been involved in various roles across the tennis industry for 35 years, and over time has held the positions of President, Vice President and a general committee member. At Tongala Lawn Tennis Club, Helen served as a general committee member, Vice President and Junior Coordinator.
“Both Ken and Helen’s involvement within both organisations have extended well beyond these formal positions having undertaken many other roles to support the development of the sport, and they continue to be involved in tennis because of their passion for the game,” said Tennis Victoria Country Participation Manager Adam Crameri.
The Tennis Victoria Highly Commended Tennis Service Award is an award to recognise those who have demonstrated their contribution to the sport of tennis through outstanding and exemplary service to any one or more of Tennis Victoria’s affiliated tennis clubs and/or associations and/or member organisations. Service to other tennis related bodies may also be recognised.
Only a maximum of ten Highly Commended Awards are presented per calendar year.
