Registrations remain open for the inaugural Wheelchair Tennis Fast4 Run & Roll Tournament and Come ‘n Try session.
The Wheelchair Tennis event to be held at the Hume Tennis Centre on Saturday, 27 May 2017 is expected to draw many enthusiastic tennis players.
A FREE Come ‘n Try session will begin at 12:30pm, while the Run & Roll tournament begins at 2:00pm.
The Run & Roll tournament will include pairing a wheelchair athlete with an able-bodied player and utilising the Fast4 format. Hume club members will be on hand should wheelchair athletes not have a partner to play with.
Tennis Australia’s wheelchair tournaments coordinator, Holly Tawse is looking forward to the event, especially seeing how the unique format will be received by players.
“This event is a social competition and the format of play allows the wheelchair tennis community to play with their family, friends, and members from their local club,” Tawse said.
“It promotes the message that you don’t have to play in a structured wheelchair tennis program to get on a court and get involved in the sport. It is an accessible sport.”
Tawse is confident Run & Roll will provide the necessary platform to encourage more wheelchair athletes to take up the sport, but equally as important, “create more opportunities” for them to get on court.
“Hume Tennis & Community Centre is Victoria’s only Wheelchair Development HUB. These HUB’s are being developed to create an environment where wheelchair tennis players can connect, socialize and play with peers, friends and family,” Tawse said.
