Ron Morton has been recognised for his years of unparalleled service to the Merlynston Tennis Club with a Tennis Victoria Highly Commended Service Award.

The award was presented on Monday night to Ron by Tennis Victoria Awards Director, Anne Baldwin.

Part of the Tennis Victoria Recognition Program, the Highly Commended Service Award is a prestigious acknowledgement of Ron’s work in the sport.

The former President of the Merlynston Tennis Club and current President of the North Suburban Juniors Tennis Association, Ron’s dedication to tennis began over 20 years ago taking his children to junior competitions. This then blossomed into Ron putting his hand up for all jobs, big and small, around the club. From maintenance to administration, Ron was always involved in doing his best to ensure the club could continue to thrive.

In 1995, Ron’s continued efforts culminated in the presentation of life membership of the Merlynston Tennis Club.

Despite his children not having played junior competition for 10 years, he has still maintained his presence and interest – something parents and players alike are incredibly thankful for.

Countless roles and positions with the Merlynston Tennis Club and the North Suburban Junior Tennis Association have been filled by Ron Morton at some point. His service to tennis has never gone unnoticed but now he is able to get the recognition he thoroughly deserves.

A Highly Commended Service Award is approved by the Tennis Victoria Board and is only awarded to up to ten recipients each year.
