The 2017 Tennis Victoria Pennant season is nearing conclusion as most Grades see Premiers crowned.
Dendy Park Tennis Club played host to a rain interrupted Grade 1 Grand Final two weeks ago as friends and families braved the initial dubious conditions to witness a full schedule of competition.
Centre Court Indoor was crowned Grade 1 Women’s champions with a four-rubbers-to-one victory over Bundoora Tennis Club. Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club took out the top men’s grade as they emerged with a five-rubbers-to-two win over Glenburn Tennis Club.
The Centre Court Indoor team made up of: Ramona Mataruga, Carolyn Mcgann, Olivia Symons, Kellie Brunger, Jenelle Findlay and Emma Thompson claimed the win following an impressive display.
After splitting the opening doubles rubbers, the Kooyong team of: Greg Jones, David Bidmeade, Jeremy Taylor and Joshua Charlton saluted with a hard-fought win.
Kooyong’s Jeremy Taylor was thrilled with the team’s effort and pleased his team was able to grind out the win.
“It turned out to be extremely enjoyable with the Grand Final being very closely contested,” Taylor said.
“With all four singles matches going down to the wire and being decided in the third set, it was great to be a part of.
“Congratulations to Glenburn for an awesome season and thank you for an outstanding final – played in good spirit,” he said.
