The opening rounds of Tennis Victoria Premier League has provided some blistering highlights as the state’s highest inter-club competition launches into the season.
Liston (women) and MCC Glen Iris Valley (men) have both claimed top position on the Tennis Victoria Premier League ladder. The defending women’s champions, Liston, opened their campaign with two strong victories as the men’s MCC Glen Iris Valley squad shocked title favourites Kooyong Lawn on Saturday, with a five rubbers to one win.
Liston Tennis Club, Geelong Lawn Tennis Club and MCC Glen Iris Valley Tennis Club all played host in the opening rounds. MCC Glen Iris Valley Tennis Club hosted the competition’s first Super Round of the season, which is all women’s and men’s teams playing at the one venue.
Some standout performances included; Isabelle Wallace (Liston) defeating Storm Sanders (Royal South Yarra Lawn) in Round One 6-0 6-3 and Harry Bourchier (MCC Glen Iris Valley) toppling Greg Jones (Kooyong Lawn) 6-3 7-5 in Round Two.
This weekend sees Rounds Three and Four being played. On Saturday, the women will play at Dendy Park Tennis Club while Bundoora Tennis Club will have the men’s teams. On Sunday, Royal South Yarra Lawn Tennis Club plays host to the second Super Round of the season.
