The Footscray North Primary School has recently opened new Hot Shots courts on school grounds during a special presentation last week.
Fully funded by Tennis Victoria, these courts courts fall under a strategic vision to see Hot Shots courts in all primary schools.
The school assembly turned into a big event with officials from Maidstone Tennis Club, ANZ and Tennis Victoria attending.
Former World Number 289 Tammi Patterson was also there to assist in handing out racquets to all the prep students, and they were able to put them to good use following the event.
Footscray North Primary School joins Clayton North and East Reservoir as primary schools with these Hot Shots courts now in use. Students will be able to enjoy playing tennis and participate in the many programs and coaching available through the Maidstone Tennis Club.
The Maidstone Tennis Club, located in close proximity to Footscray North, will operate out of the primary school thanks to a partnership struck up between the two.
Tennis Victoria CEO Matthew Kennedy, says this significant initiative from Tennis Victoria will allow many children to gain greater access to the sport.
“This ambition to see Hot Shots courts in every primary school in Victoria is something we’re committed to and we’ll continue to work hard to achieve this bold vision,” Kennedy said.
“It’s been sensational to see, in only a few short months, Footscray North and Clayton North open their new courts to give students the opportunity to play tennis for longer and more often.”
Tennis Victoria has worked with local stakeholders to see a few schools already installing these courts. Due to these strong relationships the outcome will be that students across the state will soon benefit and have greater access to tennis.
