Interning at Tennis Victoria – NICOLE ERASMUS
Nicole Erasmus joined Tennis Victoria as an intern from Holmesglen. Nicole is studying the Sports Media degree and will look to graduate from her course in May this year.
We loved having Nicole as part of the Tennis Victoria team – we caught up with Nicole to hear about her experience in Tennis and at Tennis Victoria!
What has been the best part of working at Tennis Victoria?
My favourite part about interning with Tennis Victoria was that I was given so much responsibility, such as designing TV’s first in-house annual report and creating majority of the graphics for the 2021 Premier League. I also enjoyed that I was able to complete a wide variety of tasks including writing articles, designing graphics and the annual report, podcast editing and much more.
What has been the best task/project you were given working at Tennis Victoria?
I was given such a wide range of great tasks but my favourites had to be designing the annual report and creating graphics for the 2021 Premier League. For the annual report, I placed and formatted existing information, created graphs and tables, and designed the document.
For the Premier League graphics, I created a variety of graphics (e.g. team previews, player tiles, results etc.) to promote the competition and to be used throughout as well – I also created a Kayo graphic which they posted on their channels, so that was pretty cool.
What are three things you’ve learnt whilst being here?
Three things that I learnt and developed during my time with TV was podcast editing, photography and my Canva skill set. Coming into my internship editing wasn’t my strong suite, but coming out I edited five podcasts and am not only more confident in it, but also enjoy editing now.
During Premier League, I was given the opportunity to do some photography which is something I hadn’t done before (other than on a phone), so I’m really excited to keep developing those skills in the near future. While I’ve always had a bit of a creative eye and some experience with Canva, having used the program for the annual report and many graphics during my internship, I’m now extremely confident in using it.
Explain your best day at Tennis Victoria?
It’s hard to pick just one day but it’d probably have to be my first day, as well as my last weekend of my internship with TV. On my first proper day, I had about 3-4 ‘meet the team’ meetings and it was just so nice that different teams took time out of their day to introduce themselves, the team and what they do.
On this day I also made a start to the annual report which was one of my favourite tasks throughout my hours. The last weekend, Premier League rounds 4, 5 and the grand final, were also some of the best days and the perfect ending to an amazing internship. It was so nice to get out and cover some live sport, while also getting to know the Victorian tennis community and finally meeting some staff face-to-face.
What do you think of the staff culture? And have you enjoyed interacting with the tennis community?
The culture at TV is very respectful, inclusive and forward-thinking. I felt comfortable and welcome at TV immediately and knew it’d be a great place and environment to intern with/work at (which it was). While lockdown prevented interaction with the tennis community, the little taste I had during Premier League was amazing. I really enjoyed interacting with staff, players and spectators and the summer of tennis!
THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTRIBUTION NICOLE, FROM ALL OF US AT TENNIS VICTORIA!
