The fourth annual Knox City Council Sport and Leisure Awards took place on Wednesday evening, and the hard work and exceptional efforts of Wantirna Tennis Club did not go unnoticed.
Established in 2017, the Knox Sport and Leisure Awards aims to create sustainable sporting groups through the retention of volunteers and promotion of award-winning club initiatives to the wider Knox community.
One of six awards given out on the night, The Club of the Year Award is awarded to a Knox Council-based sport and leisure club who:
- has implemented good governance structures
- has attended Council’s Club Development Workshops
- are inclusive and supportive to volunteers.
Over 120 clubs were in the running for this year’s award, but the exceptional work displayed by Wantirna Tennis Club that saw them take home the title of Club of the Year!
The awards was accepted by Club President Greg Dorn alongside Treasurer Daryl Barrett and Secretary Alison Rogers.
Whilst also navigating the challenges thrown at all sporting clubs over the past two years, Wantirna has been focused on developing their Strategic Plan and Governance structures, with a particular emphasis on Child Safety and Risk Management.
The Club’s planned focus into the inclusions space was also acknowledged.
Congratulations to all involved in making Wantirna Tennis Club such a fantastic place to play the sport we all love.
