With an estimated 550 tonnes of tennis balls being imported every year, it’s never been more important to reflect on how we can reduce the environmental impact our sport has.
Tennis Victoria is proud to partner with Game On Recycling – an Australian first program that recycles and re-purposes unwanted and unusable sporting equipment. They have already collected over 50,000 tennis balls and over 3 tonnes of equipment in total, but we need your help to continue to collect and ensure that we become world leaders in reducing sports impact on the environment!
Game On Recycling process the equipment to ensure that useable equipment is donated to charities, and ends up in the hands of kids who otherwise wouldn’t have access to them. Everything else is recycled and with continued research into its uses, could become your next tennis court or even the road to get you there!
We are looking for your club, association or business to get involved by becoming a collection point for your community, or to hold a one-off collection, both of which will be completely free! Game On Recycling covers the cost to ensure all that old equipment is going to the right place.
Can’t become a collection partner? That’s okay! With over 250 locations to drop off your sporting equipment from the mountain slopes to the streets of your local community, there is a place for your old items to go! Find your nearest location here.
And if you’re in remote communities or cannot easily access one of their locations, let Game On Recycling know and they will organise a one-off collection that’s as simple as dropping off to your local Australia Post, all free of charge!
So why leave all those old balls and racquets to gather dust when they could score a point for Planet Earth!
