Bundoora Tennis Club played host for the second time, while the women ventured to Grace Park Hawthorn for the third round of Premier League.

Over in Bundoora, the home side got off to the perfect start against the undefeated MCC Glen Iris Valley, with Adam Lasky and Jeremy Beale combining to claim the doubles 6-4, 6-2. Despite a win from Aaron Addison, RMIT Bundoora were not to be beaten on home turf, winning an incredible battle between Chanchai Sookton-Eng and Nick Jovanovski which lasted over two hours and culminated in a superb super tiebreaker. Jovanovski claimed the match 6-7, 7-6, 11-9.

Hume Tennis and Community Centre celebrated a comfortable win in all three rubbers, with Dayne Kelly leading the charge with a 6-1, 6-0 over Matthew Woerndle. It’s the third straight loss for Royal South Yarra, and firmly cements their place at the bottom of the ladder after the first weekend of competition.

Kooyong remain kings of the men’s division after an epic battle in the doubles against Beaumaris Lawn. Alex Babanine and Petar Jovic took the challenge to David Bidmeade and Andrew Whittington, but it wasn’t enough to stop Kooyong from claiming the 7-5, 3-6, 10-4 victory.

At Grace Park Tennis Club in the Women’s Division, Kooyong made it three from three after defeating Harkaway 3-0, Eliza Dunbar and Gabby Villegas won their singles in straight sets while Zoe Llewellyn and Belinda Woolcock won a close doubles match 10-4 in the match tiebreaker against Dubravka Cupac and Prisha Baliga.

MCC Glen Iris and RMIT Bundoora both cemented their place in the top four by defeating Grace Park and Royal South Yarra respectively. It was an important win for RMIT Bundoora, who on the back of Elicia Kim’s straight sets victory against Tayla Stenta 6-1, 6-2 and the doubles pairing of Jelena Cvijanovic and Christina Dodaj winning their doubles match, has stayed within distance of being involved on Grand Final day.
