10 November 2022 | Tennis Victoria

Dear Victorian Tennis Community,

Welcome to the November Edition of Tennis Victoria News.

Firstly, I want to recognise the communities and tennis people that have been impacted by the Victorian floods and severe weather across the last month. Our thoughts are with the Victorian communities affected, Tennis Victoria have been and will be continuing to provide assistance for those impacted.  If any affiliates need support, please reach out directly to your Club Development Officer.

On Thursday October 27 we celebrated all winners and finalists at the Victorian Tennis Awards. It was a fantastic evening to recognise the significant contributions across Victorian tennis, and congratulations to all of those who were nominated.

A particular highlight from the evening was the 2019 Victorian Spirit of Tennis award winner Norm Cahill presenting the 2022 award to Dylan Alcott OAM, a very worthy winner for his amazing and continued contribution to tennis on and off the court. Please visit here for a list of finalists and winners.

Last Tuesday evening, the Disability Sport and Recreation Awards were announced for 2022, Victorian Tennis was strongly represented, we congratulate all those in the tennis community that won an award:

  • Dylan Alcott OAM for receiving the Kevin Coombs Lifetime Achievement Award,
  • Heath Davidson for Elite Sportsperson of the Year
  • Robert Fletcher for Community Sportsperson of the Year
  • Adam Fayad for Masters Sportsperson of the Year
  • Get Skilled Access – Sport4All for Sport Initiative of the Year

In late October our team were fortunate to assist communities in Genoa, Mallacoota, Orbost, Omeo, Eskdale & Khancoban and Corryong as part of the Rally as One tour. Four community events were attended by over 400 people from bushfire affected communities and supported by 20 local community groups, with Australian Open trophies on show.

It is a great time to be involved in tennis as we lead into a big the Summer of Tennis here in Victoria. It continues with our Victorian Hardcourt Championships on this week at Frankston Centenary Tennis Club and an exciting conclusion to Tennis Victoria Premier League this weekend at Royal South Yarra, Kooyong and Melbourne Park.

The Premier League Grand Final will be staged this Saturday Night at the National Tennis Centre and we encourage you to come and watch Victoria’s highest inter-club competition. Alternatively, if you cannot make it in person, we will have the Grand Final streamed live on Kayo Sports from 5pm. Click here to see the remaining schedule and results.

Additionally, our Associations Junior League Grand Finals will be held on Sunday November 20 at four locations across Melbourne. Good luck to all association teams playing their final round of competition this weekend.

Please continue to reach out to your Tennis Victoria representative in you require any support or information as we lead into the Summer of tennis!
