Our Victorian stars have had a solid start to the first Grand Slam of 2023.

At home soil, we have had Victorian’s compete across the whole tournament.

Our highest ranked Victorian Women’s Singles player Jaimee Fourlis has done us proud. Jaimee had a tough opponent in Linda Fruhvirtova, who made it to the fourth round but fell short today.

Jaimee competed in the Women’s Doubles with Astra Sharma and narrowly missed out on advancing to the second round, going down 6-2 6-7 4-6.

John Peers has paired up with Andreas Mies from Germany in the Men’s Doubles winning today to advance to the quarter finals. The pair played in front of a packed Kia Arena against fellow Aussies Alex Bolt and Luke Saville to win 6-0 6-3.

Marc Polmans partnered with Alexei Popyrin in the Men’s Doubles winning the first round 6-4 6-3 to Galloway and Bagnis, however the pair lost in yesterday’s second round in a 6-7 6-4 3-6 tough match.

However, Marc Polmans run is far from over after defeating the all Aussie pairing in Kim Birrell and Rinky Hijikata in the Mixed Doubles with Olivia Gadecki. Polmans and Gadeki advance to the quarter finals!

Two Victorians Alana Parnaby and Andrew Harris have paired up in the Mixed Doubles too, defeating Zhang and Haase 4-6 7-6 10-8 in the first round. Up against the third seeds Skupski and Krawczyk, the Australian pair were defeated 6-2 6-4 in a good fight.

In the Juniors, we have a number of Victorians representing Australia in 2023.

Elicia Kim partnered with Gabby Gregg in the Girls Doubles yesterday had a great first experience at the Australian Open, however, did not advance into the second round.

In the Girls Singles, Stefani Webb advanced to the second round after knocking out the number one seed Sara Saito 6-3 1-6 6-2 in an incredible defeat.

Stefani also features in the Girls Doubles with fellow Victorian Roisin Gilheany. The two paired up to defeat their opponents 6-4 1-6 10-7 in a thriller.

Cooper Errey competed in the Junior Boys Doubles today with Marcus Schoeman and advanced to the second round after defeating fourth seeded Coman and Dodig 3-6 6-4 10-8 in an incredible comeback!
