The State League Championships were bittersweet for Section 6 winners, EDWTA – Doncaster.

The ladies in pink were playing for not only each other, but for their friend Nina Socratous who sadly passed on 28 April.

“Nina passed on 28 April at home with her loving husband Vas at her side. After a brave battle with ovarian cancer she is now at peace and reunited with her son Chris”, Doncaster Tennis Club stated.

“Nina was a great friend to so many people. She was energetic and highly spirited in ways that we would often laugh at. Her brash and happy demeanor was illuminated with tattoos and spiky hair. She had a great sense of humor and fun and was always able to put a smile on our faces. She was caring and compassionate to all.”

“She helped tirelessly at the club where she was a lifetime member. She organised tournaments and competition events regularly and served on the committee for many seasons. She was well known and well loved and will be dearly missed.”

Nina Socratous was awarded a Tennis Victoria Service award in 2019, based on her many years of service at the Doncaster Tennis Club since 1985.

Congratulations to the EDWTA – Doncaster team on winning the State League Championships in Section 6 after a great weekend.

Tennis Victoria sends their regards to Nina’s family.
