State Grade Results: Round 13 Men and Round 14 Women, Saturday August 12

The inclement weather was a dampener on the second State Grade Super Round of the season, which brought all matches to two locations, Oak Park and North Ringwood Tennis Clubs.

Men’s (Round 13):

Fawkner were the only team to record a victory on the Men’s side, beating the rain to record a 4-1 success over Tennis World at Oak Park TC. The number 1 doubles was the highlight, with Fawkner recording a narrow 6-4 7-5 win to set them up for victory. The other match at Oak Park was evenly poised, with Kooyong Lawn and Grace Park Hawthorn splitting the doubles rubbers before the singles rubbers were all incomplete. At North Ringwood, MCC Glen Iris Valley and Eildon Park were both 2-0 to the good after the doubles rubbers, against Royal South Yarra and North Ringwood respectively. However, the rain prevented any further play.

Women’s (Round 14):

At Oak Park, Grace Park Hawthorn were dominant against Beaumaris Lawn, quickly sweeping their way through the first four rubbers without dropping a set before the rain tumbled down. That result is crucial to ensure they stay within reach of Harkaway, who remain in the box seat to clinch the remaining finals position with one round to go. Harkaway’s latest triumph was an impressive 4-2 eclipse of Diggers Rest at North Ringwood. In the other match at North Ringwood, Kooyong showed why they are the team to beat, blitzing through the doubles rubbers before play stopped after the commencement of the singles rubbers. With one round to go, Kooyong are guaranteed to finish top and have booked their place in the Grand Final on September 2.
