Victorian tennis is saddened by the passing of Beverley Rae (nee Mance) on 10 September, aged 93 years.

Beverley was the recipient of the Victorian Spirit of Tennis Award (formerly Centenary of Tennis) in 1998.

Bev was a tennis coach, and owned a coaching business with her husband Alan for 25 years. She was a No. 1 player and Captain of State Grade teams at both Glen Iris Valley and Caulfield Rec Tennis Club for a record 37 years. Bev won her first Glen Iris Valley Recreational Club Tennis Championships in 1948, and in 1971 she was the winner for the 17th time – an incredible achievement. She went on to join the veterans tour and won numerous National, World and European titles.

Also a State and Australian selector of women’s tennis, Bev was awarded a Sports Achievement Award. She was a Life Member of Kooyong Lawn Tennis Club.
