On Saturday 14 October at MCC Glen Iris Valley’s celebration of 100 years, President Peter Gillieron was awarded a Highly Commended Service Award from the Board of Tennis Victoria.

A Highly Commended Service Award is an award to recognise those who have demonstrated their long-term volunteer contribution to the sport of tennis in Victoria through exemplary service to multiple Tennis Victoria affiliated clubs, Associations or Tennis Victoria. Service can be continuous or broken and should be no less than 15 years. A maximum of ten Highly Commended Service Awards are awarded per calendar year. 

Peter Gillieron has been an outstanding contributor to tennis at the Glen Iris Valley Recreation Club and now MCC Glen Iris Valley Tennis Club; he has been a Director since 1991. This includes terms as President/Chair from 1991-2017 and 2022 to present.

He has led the club through significant events including the closure and relocation from Brixton Rise to Mt Waverley, lease renewal negotiations, and the successful merger with the MC Tennis Section.

A Life Member of Glen Iris Valley since 2002 Peter has a lifelong connection and dedication to the club, always striving to improve it for future generations.

His leadership has overseen numerous major events at the club including Tennis Victoria Premier League, Tennis Victoria State Grade and Pennant Finals, the 2011 Fed Cup tie (Australia v Ukraine) and the 1997 Glen Iris Masters.
