2 November 2023 | Tennis Victoria
It has been fantastic to connect with many of you over what was a very busy month in October.
Together with Tennis Australia we launched the new tennis brand. This bright and vibrant way forward is an exciting time for the sport.
We then welcomed many of you to the Tennis Victoria Annual General Meeting. This was the first time we delivered this as a hybrid event in person and online. At the AGM it was announced that Nadine Maloney and Chris Mitchell were elected to the Tennis Victoria Board. After the AGM, the Board met and re-appointed Jacqueline Pirone as President. On this same night, we also hosted our Summer of Tennis Launch and I thank those of you who joined us in the room and online to prepare for a big Summer ahead. Thank you to all of our staff and supporters who were available to discuss the variety of projects we can support you with including local area marketing, court access, lighting solutions, uniform suppliers, program opportunities, child safeguarding, competitive play, inclusive tennis including the Blind Tennis demonstration and strategic planning.
Less than a week later we celebrated the achievements of the high performers in our community at the Victorian Tennis Awards. 15 awards were presented, and congratulations to all winners including the Victorian Player of the Year, Heath Davidson, Most Outstanding Club Hume Tennis and Community Centre and Victorian Spirit of Tennis Julie Fidler.
We’ve hit the road to bring AO on the Road to regional towns across Victoria. Bright and Mildura have hosted their events and over the coming weeks we’ll also visit more towns including Rochester, Wahgunyah and Echuca with the final stop being at our own Inter-regional Championships in January 2024.
Victorian athletes led from the front at the Victorian State Championships for people with an intellectual impairment or deaf or hard of hearing. Congratulations to all competitors.
As I look ahead to November, I ask you to get your calendars out and put these important dates in your diary. Tennis Victoria Premier League is back in 2023 and have you seen the players competing? Super rounds on November 10, 11, 12, 16 and 17 will host some of Victoria and Australia’s best tennis talent as they gear up for a big Australian Summer. Encourage your clubs to get along to these Super Rounds (you can view the full fixture here) hosted by our community clubs to bring this high level tennis to you. In a first for Premier League, the Grand Finals will be held at the Kooyong Stadium, with entry free for everyone. We would love to fill the stadium seats with passionate tennis fans so I hope to see you there. But if you can’t make it to Kooyong, we’re partnering with Kayo Freebies again to bring the action to your loungerooms.
As we head into another busy Summer with the Kooyong Classic and Australian Open just around the corner, we know that across Victoria many of you are delivering Summer competitions and events. If you haven’t had a chance to visit our Learn and Serve section of the new look Tennis Victoria website, please do so. There are many great resources there to support you and help you promote your work in your community.
And finally, I wanted to let you all know that after 17 years at Tennis Victoria, the last 3 as CEO, I have tendered my resignation and will finish up in January 2024. I will hopefully have a chance to wish many of you farewell over that time but in the meantime, I thank you all for your support of tennis and the work you continue to do.
Until next time,
Adam Crameri
Chief Executive Officer
